View Full Version : Games like Gauntlet - any more?

Howdy all,

Anyone know of any good "family fun" type multiplayer games for either PS/2 or GC? At the moment, I play Gautlet TDC with my Sis and sis-in-law, and its a great laugh - was wondering if there are any more similar games.

not much in the specific gauntlet genre but a lot, for example on GC several 4-players games:

super monkey ball
super monkey ball 2
mario party 4
bomberman generations
super smash bros melee

not exactly for the whole family
timesplitters 2
Phantasy star online
gauntlet : dark legacy

also some racing/sport titles..
waverace : blue storm

Smash Bros. and Mario Party 5,236,512 are safe bets.

TimeSplitters 2 is incredibly fun in multi, and there's no blood so it's somewhat family-friendly, if you can get past the use of guns and the "KILL" mentality :)

Tony Hawk 4 is good fun, too, and you can turn the blood off :)

The most Gauntlet-like game I can think of off the top of my head would be Hunter:The Reckoning, but that's about as non-family-friendly as you can get.

Whatever happened to the whole "Gauntlet" genre? IIRC, there were plenty of gauntlet style games up to N64 and DC, but no more. =/

Hunter is fun, if your kids arent scared of Zombies.. Its pretty bloody.
Gauntlet DL is out, though it kind of sucks and looks like a pre-N64 game.
for PS2, get Balders Gate DL(get the PS2 version, GC version is crap)
and coming soon to both systems, is D&D heroes, which looks awesome IMO.

BG on GC looks equally good, but the problem is the framerate. Apparently it was a bad port job.

I am really excited about this one, I think it is looking very sharp, hopefully it will live up to the high expectations I have for it, it will be out in about a month or two

Speaking of Timesplitters2, doesn't anyone notice that the groans when you get shot (especially for the female characters) seem more sexual than "ouch, I got shot"? :)

Not all of them...

But one sticks out big time, and really bugs me - who was it... Venus Starr?

The last Burns & Bangs Arcade League is you (Sergio) versus a crapload of them, and they definitely sound like they're "having fun". :P Very annoying.
