So what do we have here? Basically ATI is targeting the 9500 Pro to compete with the GeForce4 Ti 4200 GPU. However, in our tests the 9500 Pro is able to outperform the Ti 4200 in everything: no anti-aliasing, anti-aliasing, and anti-aliasing with anisotropic. In fact, it's close to the Ti 4600 with no anti-aliasing and no anisotropic. Once you enable AA or AF, however, the 9500 Pro just takes off and outperforms the Ti 4600
Nice review, Brent. I went out and bought one of these yesterday, and found IF you don't mind "olny" using 4X FSAA & 8X AF, speed seems pretty close to the 9700PRO at 6X FSAA & 16X AF! Very usable in most everything..... works great in both AC2 & DAoC SI! Now, IF I can just find a way to O/C it! 8)
ACK! Forgot the link!

This should do it (http://www.rage3d.com/r3dtweak) ;)
PowerStrip 3.30 was just released
from the readme
12/07/2002 - 3.30.359
- Improved handling of GF4 secondaries
- Added support for Radeon trilinear filtering
- Improved run-as-service option
- Added hotkey support for changing primary monitor
- Added support for Radeon 9500/9700TX
So maybe that will work now, not sure. I have another card in my test system I am testing out right now, so I can't plop the 9500 Pro in right now. But you can follow the discussion over at Rage3D here:

Perhaps someone will try it soon...

Ahh I see... the 9500Pro uses yet another device id.
Use the file I released in this thread (http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=1331587061#post1331587061 ) for the next few days until I get the full 3.7 release of r3dtweak done.

I haven't decided if I should pick one of these up yet. The price is awefully tempting.
As a side note, wouldn't this thread be better suited for the new 3D Board forum (http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=13)?
Im partial to Radeonator LE(cut down version only with overclocking support). Rage3dtweak seems too intrusive and bulky in my opinion(dont take it personally Ichy, it is a great piece of software)
I just detest having an app running in the background.

I haven't used Radeonator
but in the latest Rage3D Tweaker you can selelct only the options you want installed
for example you could install ONLY overclocking support, and all you will have is a tab in the advanced display properties for overclocking....

Interesting, but does it still have that little app running in the background?
The name of it escapes me at the moment.

Yes, GameUtil still runs in the background, but it does far more than simply overclocking. It enables hotkey support for gamma/brightnes/contrast/sound/process priority as well as 2ndary refresh rate forcing. It lets you set clock/memory speeds and profiles that are auto-set when you run a game, and then resets them to defaults when you exit the game (come now, do you really need to overclock your desktop?).
GameUtil is a 24Kb program. It uses 0 CPU except for the short moments when it is doing one of its functions... basically when you run a game. It has absolutely zero impact on performance, and allows you to do things that no other tweaker lets you do. Powerstrip has similar capabilities (heh usually adopted months after we implement them), and accomplishes them in a similar way as GameUtil.
If you want to overclock your desktop, then r3dtweak might not be for you. If you want complete control over what you're doing with your clock speeds and tweaks in your system on an application level, then nothing does what r3dtweak does as well as we do.
(ok, hehe sry about the sorta sales pitch...)
