Interesting to see that Joust, which is a game that came out in like '84 and has like a 64k ROM size, is twice as expensive as Smash TV, a game from the '90s that runs on a 32-bit RISC processor and has very powerful sprite graphics hardware.

Probably because Joust is (more than) twice as fun as Smash TV. :D

Really, that game is a TOTAL hoot. The people who designed it must have been high on dope when they did it, but it is fun as hell. Just hearing the original arcade sounds when the player's ostrich is running around is enough to make me giggle... Crazy game.

If today's FPSes had HALF the playability of these old arcade classics, the state of gaming would have been far better than today.

Wha? Smash TV is GREAT! Joust? Bah!!

Smash TV is just repetive killing, shooting into the closest hoard while trying to avoid the masses of enemies, flying debris, random fire etc (and often not succeeding because of the sheer amounts of junk flying/running around). Joust requires a lot more strategy and skill. In a way it's like classic warplane dogfighting where altitude is power, etc.

If one isn't bored to tears by smash TV about two or three rooms past mutoid man, then that player has to be a mutant also. ;)

Joust is playable free as a web-game. I didn't like it.
