However, with suddenly unexpectedly high yields, and an unfavourable competitive environment, suddenly a glut of chips were on hand, more than they could reasonably move. From these chips new, cheaper products were formed in the shape of the 8 pipelined X800 GT and the 12 pipelined GTO.

Here we take a look at the last hurrah of ATI’s X800 series with two GTO products from Sapphire; the Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO² and X800 GTO Ultimate Edition both have the same basic specifications, but are both catered towards distinctly different users. Click here to read the review.

I'm probably being thick, but are the stated texel rates correct for the clock, texture unit and ROP count on those boards? They seem out by a fair bit.

Not any more! :)

How come the texture rate is 8G if it's not unlocked and just 12 PP:???:

Compared to the 2.0ns RAM on the Ultimate Edition board, the 1.6ns memory on this GTO² card unsurprisingly yielded a far greater RAM overclock, bringing the final clock speed up 80MHz to 570MHz from the 490MHz default.

1000/1.6 = 625

?

Yes, but that depends on DRAM voltage. It probably doesn't have enough juice to get to the rated speed.

Indeed - I was hoping to get more out of the RAM, but that's as high as I could get it stably.

Thanks for editing the texel rate Dave, should have spotted that one!
