PS3 online strategy will be the same developer led strategy as currently exists for PS2, say reports by the most reliable online site - CVG!
May or may not be true... but I guess if this is true then Sony is banking on Blu-ray as the "extra" of choice as opposed to online connectivity. If this story is true, that is a clear distinction in strategy between the two camps.
But it also begs the question... why the multiple high speed Ethernet connections?

Old and presumptuous.

To add on though, since I couldn't be bothered to reply in that thread, I think the root source of this information is Phil Harrison's musings on the subject a couple of months ago in an interview. The talk has recently resurfaced, but I'm not sure if it's rooted in a new interview or just a sort of archeological dig of old information.

Because...
open online platform != featureless online platform?
Dupe, by the way.

This can all be traced back to Phil Harrison's comments from GDCE about how they'd be sticking to an open business model for PS3 Online.
But this doesn't mean it will be like PS2 Online (as claimed in the original thread). Or won't have some Live-style functionality (at least it does not preclude it - in fact Harrison said at the same time that some things from Live would serve as a model for PS3 Online). Of course, though, it won't be exactly like Live, it can't be, just as Live won't be exactly like it.
I guess I simply take issue with the implication that either a) it'll be no evolution from PS2 Online or b) it won't be a focus for Sony when we simply don't know anything about it at this stage other than that it'll be an open platform for publishers. That's not enough to draw conclusions about its nature from a consumer perspective - it may be exactly like PS2 Online, for example, or more likely, there'll be evident evolution there. The point is we just don't know right now.

Bolded and Underlined for emphasis.
Just to reiterate from the last thread...
Sony's recent survey demonstrates that they are considering the use of some xlive features such as:
1) Single ID across games
2) Cheat monitoring
3) Locating friends online for chat/play.

Nothing wrong with the thread, but as others have pointed out, there's already a thread (http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25221) about this, so...
