Where are At commands for modems used????

I was studying from an A+ book and was wondering where they were used.

i last used them in playing some good ole Warcraft2 via direct dialup connection.
Your AT commands are usually typed in to modem init strings in dos based programs. They basically tell the modem to pick up, hang up, etc.
