Really funny. :-( Just before I see this news, I was called by the Gamestop shop which I gave my pre-order. The guy told me that although I am 13th on the list, there is a chance that I am not getting on the first date. Less than 13 box per store.. This is ridiculous.

I guess the shortage problem is very real. :-(

Bah dont get me started on this one. It boarders on misleading and false advertising IMO. Something that has become too normal in many industries these days :)

Meh, I'm number 11 on my stores preorder list, and it's already paid in full. Shortages don't bother me.

I just wish I had preordered 2. This looks like prime Ebay material to me.

I gave my pre-order back in mid June. Way before they start taking pre-orders on net. That's just not fair. However, the guy told me that he is trying to get some extra boxes. Though I do not know if it is even possible.

I think they just try to maximize their profits by giving priority to bundled pre-order. However, I also already pre-ordered two games. I just want to pick whatever I want, not what they decided for me. By these tactics, they just lost a customer.

I think most places are limiting 1 per customer for launch period at most stores here. Not to say you cant take a friend or two around with you on midnight or early morning launch day and grab a couple "extra's" for ebay sales might be interesting. Bet you could even get a good price on a core package for Xmas day on ebay :)

Xbox 360 the Tickle Me Elmo of this holiday season :)

***If no one remembers the Tickle Me Elmo fiasco a few years back where people bought (I think about $50 per) and sold the popular Elmo for around $600 (and more?) on ebay during the holiday season. (Their kids just had to have it :)) Nothing better then watching proper soccer moms cat fighting (yes really) over a toy when a shipment came in.

Well guys this is my understanding

Low volume stores get 10-20 units . High volume stores get 20 + units

There will be another shipment of about half the initial amount the first week or second week of december .

This is what i was hearing

Well, I'm 14th in line at my EB....

I'd be surprised if they don't get at least 15 in. That would suck if they got less. I preordered all the way back at the end of May/beginning of June and I still wouldn't get one.

Then my local GS should get a ton of them. They had over 300 peorders for Halo 2, and as of last week had 123 preorders for the 360. Of course gaming here is a little more popular than most of the US, which is why places like Best Buy do midnight launches here. (Even PC games like Doom 3 got a midnight launch at Best Buy here, complete with id Software employees showing up to sign autographs and such.)

My local GS has 60 pre-orders. Most of them is for the premuim package. Btw, the guy at the store mentioned that they also have some sort of launch party at midnight. Btw, where are you?

Jvd, have you heard anything about how many boxes GS allocates for shops and for internet pre-orders. I am just curious. I heard they allocate 35000 boxes for shops, but I did not hear anything about how many boxes they allocate for internet pre-orders.

I reserved mine at Gamestop on May 29, at which time I was told they already had about 30 preorders. I had mine paid in full by the end of July. Now it looks like there's a pretty decent chance I won't be getting one on the 22nd. May 29! Totally unbeleivable.

That's why I don't get pre-orders, way too risky IMO.

Why not just show up at Best-buy at 10:01 a.m?

For the original Xbox launch there was a line in front of Best Buy that went all the way across the front of the store 2 hours before they opened, and they only got 50 consoles to sell.

wouldn't a pre-order be less risky than fighting it out with people at the store?

Don't think this is particularly legitimate. The BBC programme last night was following development of XB360 and they just had trouble getting things finished early enough for launch, and making them fast enough. I don't think they're reducing product below capable yields. Heck the whole point of launching first was to get the larger user base! Why contradict that by artifically reducing availibility then?

The way I see it is once the Holidays are gone the 360 essentially loses a huge advantage. To say that they want to sell 5million between launch and June/July of next year is pretty hard in that, even without the Holidays they will still need to have the consumer buy 360s at a steady rate.

At this point, it comes down to how many 360s can Microsoft pump out before Christmas, I don't see parents holding out for 360s that can only be given to them after the 25th of December simply because they want a present under that tree.

I would be very surprised if around 3 million 360's weren't sold by Christmas making an additional 2 million sold world-wide over the next 6 months not unrealistic.

Also, I think you are neglecting the sales in countries that aren't a Christian majority. In those countries, Christmas isn't a big deal but they likely have other holidays that would increase sales in their region after the Christmas season has passed.

What?

US, EU, JP. Christmas season or bust for each and every region. Christianity is heavily present in EU and US and Asia has in general adopted the spirit of Christmas shopping... for the non-christian (as far as I'm aware Korea actually has a rather high Christian pop.) cultures it's become a sort of snowy valentines day with gift giving (Santa is the main symbol in non-christian culture just as much as it is in christian culture ;)).

I agree... Whatever they do they are going to sell-out anyway.. If there are 70 pre-orders in a store, and you fullfill only 10 of them on purpose, it doesn't make sense. You sell 50 boxes for the pre-orders, and you are still sold out.

I am pretty sure that MS does whatever they can to fulfill the demand. Just, their production line does not have the bandwidth.
