View Full Version : What next generation games are you looking for this year?
I am waiting Unreal 2 and Doom3 (both probably Xmas 2002).
Any other really interesting next generation game this year?
WarCraft III was on the list, but I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of a 3D RTS.

Age of Mythology, Rise of Nations, and Dungeon Siege have all piqued my interest. Of course, the likes of Domm and Unreal will be a prerequisit for a purchase!

Waiting for Unreal 2, the fact that its been delayed and that the multiplayer component might not make it in the game it is a bit disappointing though.
HomeLAN - There has been some speculation that Unreal 2 will no longer have a multiplayer mode because of the release of UT 2. What can you tell us at this point?
Mark Rein - Unreal Tournament 2 was not anticipated at any time during the design of Unreal2 nor during much of the development. Now that we have UT2 clearly in the picture, and ready to go before Unreal 2, it doesn't make a lot of sense for the dev team to expend their time and energy polishing multiplayer when they can use that time to polish an exceptional single player experience. The market has proven that this approach makes more sense and I don't think anyone will be disappointed by this once they've had a chance to play it. So to answer the question multiplayer will disappear from Unreal 2 in exchange for it being a bigger, better and more focused single player game. What will happen to the multiplayer assets already developed for Unreal2 is still a question. If players want the ultimate multiplayer-oriented game, Unreal Tournament 2 will already be available on store shelves before Unreal 2 ships.

Though I'm not sure how "next gen." these games are, I'm really looking forward to Freedom Force, Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, Jedi Knight 2, and Jane's Attack Squadron.
With an UT 2 being released this summer, I really don't mind Legend focusing more on U2's single player gameplay.

For me the biggest one this year is Star Wars Galaxies, but I don't think it will be out until Christmas.
Jedi Knight 2 will also be very cool of course, and it'll be here at the end of the month! (...yes, I am a huge fan of Star Wars :D ).
And I can't get around also mentioning Unreal 2 and Doom 3 here.
