Acutally, it seems ATI are renaming the 8500 series to 9100.

Looking in the latest drivers you can actually find two hints:
There's three entries for the Radeon 9100.
Two of them says RV250 and one of them says R200.
I dunno what's up with that...
A rebranded 8500 running at 250/230 isn't really that impressive, sounds like leftovers to me. ;)

They still have plenty of inventory left on R200's that ATI are selling off cheap, but the problem is 9000 has a higher 'number', a higher price (while they are clearing through the inventory) but a lower performance.
well the "broshure" link points here: http://www.sapphiretech.com/broschure/8500%20and%20le.pdf
so perhaps they are trying to rename the 8500.... man will ATi ever get their frigging names right? remember the renaming of the original Radeon?
AFAIK 9100=9000+AGPx8. If 8500 is substituted, even with performance gains over 9000, then there will be problems...

Its not so bad, imo. Assuming the 8500 = 9100. Not sure about the pricing though...
9000 < 9000Pro < 9100 < 9100Pro(?) < 9500 < 9500Pro < 9700 < 9700Pro.
If you ignore everything ATI have said about their naming scheme, it makes pretty good sense imo.
Yeah yeah, but what about one 9100 based on RV250 and one on R200?
Perhaps the RV250 based 9100 is the "Pure" 9100
and the one based on R200 will be the pro version?

Not possible. Look at the Texel-Fillrate. 2.4Gtexel/sec = 300MHz x 4x2. So it seems to be an enhanced R200 @ 300MHz.
