I'll answer my own question, around $70 shipped for a 1Gb MMC (http://www.pricewatch.com/prc.aspx?i=226&a=5581)! :D
Heck, I'll get two. 8)

It was around $100 US; but went up for a bit after the demand went to the roof and supply was short. Goodluck finding the 1GB ones!

After buying the unit; open it before heading home. Make sure it does not have any dead pixels--you can play a game/movie it came with and examine the screen carefully. If there are any return and exchange it 'til you get a perfect one. Some people consider extended warranty; but it's up to you to decide to get one.
Good luck!

Oh I'm most definately getting the extended warranty, it has an immediate replacement policy for dead pixels.
Well worth the $30 for that. :)

Indeed, but for some stores (Costco) you can return the unit and refund/exchange with no hassle--this can last up to a year or so as long as you keep the receipt.
Also, if you buy the unit with VISA--the warranty is extended to one year; but talk to your Visa rep to confirm this.
Just my 2 cents, a couple of ways to save you 30 bucks = 1 game.
$349.99???.. that's 50% more then a PSP itself!

I appreciate the input. I was thinking of just going the Gamestop/EB Games route and getting their "even if the dog chews it up we'll replace it" guarantee....just for luck and 'cause I got so many damned dogs chewing things right now. ;)
If you get the warrenty from gamestop or eb its a one time deal .
I.e you have a problem 3 months later . You return it and your warrenty is gone . You have to buy another one to protect the new unit

That's pretty good. I got my High Speed (12x) CF for a decent price. But they're talking about 2 gig MS, not just lowly 1 Gigs like ours. :)

Yup...since SanDisk (aside from Sony) is the only manufacturer (short supply) and demand is up there, the company has the monopoly on pricing the memory stick.

So what exactly do I look for in a 1Gb card to make sure it'll work with the PSP?

Only that they are The DUO variety.
DUO means that they are the smaller cards, there are 1GB Memorysticks that area twice as long and they do not fit in PSP.
MemoryStick Pro DUO, or Memory Stick DUO (Pro's are supposed to be a bit faster, and I think you can't even get but Pro cards from 256MB onwards)
or
Memory Stick DUO.
DUO's the keyword with PSP compatibility, with DUO you'll be 100% safe.
The speed (Pro or not) shouldn't have much (if any) effect with PSP.
