Burnout 3 gameplay and all tracks from 1 to 3!
And there are new cars as well:
When you start playing Burnout Legends, you'll be hit with that new car smell because there'll be an estimated 25 new rides, including about six cop cars, for each Burnout version in Legends. There'll be roughly five unlockable in single-player; however, to get the other 20 or so vehicles, you'll only be given the keys to 'em through multiplayer with your friends/enemies on the road.
Burnout is like made for short game sessions on the go ... can't wait!

Edit: Mods, sorry if this should be on the handheld board ... I already forget about that one ... again. :?

The AI's inferior to Forza, the cars are too limited, the textures are loe resolution and washed out, there's no AA, you can't play it with a proper wheel, the damage isn't a true physics simulation of crumpling metal.
I think that covers all the criticism we'd expect :P
Burnout 3 gameplay and all tracks from 1 to 3!
Umm I thought it has SOME tracks from all three games?

This sounds like it will have all:
Criterion Games has announced updated versions for not only Burnout 3, but Burnout 1 & 2 as well. There'll be the same songs and tracks of the first two
But we will see. ;)

Thank you for posting this! Yep, saw it yesterday in OPM and was like, "OMG!"
I guess the classic tracks are being "reimagined" to fit the art style of the upcoming Burnout: Revenge or whatever it's being called.
The article said one of the developers' biggest challenges is matching the blazing frame rate of the console versions, but they've apparently made big strides in this direction. If they can get that baby to run at 60fps...
The article also compared these shots to an early photo of the original Burnout - a first-gen PS2 game on Criterion's engine that was touted to push 12M polys/sec, IIRC. These PSP screens blew it away. :P

How can you tell how great it looks when everything has been blurred not to mention from tiny screenshots?

Well the screens might not be the best, but you can see it's just sweet. Considering it's on a handheld. I think it will take some time for many people to get used to this kind of graphics on a handheld. It's just sweet.

I'd say wait for the real deal before getting all giddy. I would expect it to look at least as good as RR.

Tiny screens? Those screens are in the PSP res. of 480 x 272, every bigger screen would be blown up.
Fredi
That's why AA is critical for handheld graphics, to give definition to such cramped detail.

I wonder if they were allowed to use the full specs from the psp's machine or if they had to settle for the govenor speeds?

IGN has new video, looks day and night terrible than those screens which may really from ps2 version?

Web videos always look much worse than the screenshots, due to capturing method.
Haven't yet seen the ign video, but was it filmed directly from PSP screen?
If it looks even as good as Ridge Racers then I'm happy enough.
I don't think the screens are from PS2 version, is Burnout Legends even coming to PS2?

Actually, those must be the worst captured screens ever.

At least they are not upscaled, but I agree, the video actualy looks much better than those screens suggest.

i cant see the movie for one reason or another . is it available somewhere else also?

Mine too, only you got yours off a super compressed WMA video.
pahcman

yours is weirdly stretched aspect ratio. something dont give when compare with ign video. note, make sure for the video, look at the full image which clearly need more more work, ( and not the mini image running on tv. taking video off a tv hide even more image flaws )

The images on the super compressed WMV file are just that, super compressed.
There is no detail, everything is lost in the compressed video, and it looks worse than a DS game. If you think that's how the game will look like, fine by me, believe what u want.
RR looks much more like the screens i've posted than the pile of junk you've posted.
The images i have posted (not the ones on the first post) are typical PSP resolution.

Man the graphics from the video looks horrible. Just look at the building textures and the trees. Even I can't believe it's from PSP. It looks like maybe a GBA version or somthing...

mine on ign. ;)
Lying bastitch! Stealing my caps and not giving credit (check the damn url).....
I capped those from the IGN video. These are the real PSP screens. The other screens from 1up and IGN is the XBox/PS2 version stretched out. Didn't any of you notice that the cas are all squashed?
London boy, do yourself a favor and wake up and smell the coffee. We'll all be playing the PSP version at E3 and you'll be sorely dissapointed.

Chap pulled his snaps exclusively from the first and worst of the video clips shown (they seem to improve in quality as they go along--certainly in polygons and aliasing and car quality [just look at the first frame compared to 2:40 or so], though not much in environmental texture quality), but the overall look is not Ridge Racer. And it's CERTAINLY not up to the other promo pics they show--which are I assume exactly that: promo pics. And while that might be what they're aiming for and WANT to deliver, we'll have to wait for the final product to judge.
Right now, however, I think it comes down to his comment: "We're still early in development." Criterion has delivered some top-notch games in Burnout, and even if EA might be kicking them along a bit now, I certainly believe they'll deliver better than what we're seeing now. This looks like pre-alpha stuff, coming from them.
I wouldn't get TOO many hopes up about real high road and building textures, though... Burnout is about speed, and you won't really be noticing the texture quality, and I figure that's a place they won't necessarily be looking to add quality frivolously if they can spend it better improving the overall look of the landscapes and how it all looks/performs at speed. It would be interesting to see if they could up local texture res during slo-mode, though... You'll actually be seeing it then. :P

The promo shots and the actual game is like night and day. The lighting, textures, polygon counts, basically everything. I wouldn't be surpgrised if the promoshot were using the PS2 game engine.

11-May-2005, 21:18
Could be. I assume it's more of an "art build" though... what they could make the system do at, like, 1 FPS. ;) To see what they can actually make the PSP do, whether they make it do anything like that realistically.
Most games look pretty awful in their early builds, though... I expect Criterion will have things up to snuff--provided they have enough time and support to bring it to their usual standards.
thats like the ps1 version of burnout
I haven't seen the videos yet, but from some screens it does look nice and perhaps with the speed-blur, things should play really good. I'm certainly looking forward to this more than say GT4, because I think arcade-games are just better suited on a handheld than simulators.
cthellis42
12-May-2005, 12:38
I have a feeling that GT4 PSP will be a lot more "arcade-y" and concentrate on just the track racing experience than be sim-like, as people aren't going to expect that from a portable. You're dealing with less power, a smaller display, no access to proper sim controls (the Logitech FF wheels et al, I mean), and are on a much more "pick up, put down" type of game system where you want nice, faster, fun races than you can chew through rather than something you'd more devote hours and hours of time to each sitting.
Plus, they need to spend more time on the multiplayer component, because if they don't deliver it with THIS game, they need to be smacked upside the head. :P
I imagine they'll have a "difficult mode" that operates more like the GT4 you play, but I think they'll be spending less effort on that one as opposed to the "arcade mode" many more people are going to want to play.
Gee, what a shock it looks nothing like the vid screen caps chap posted, and everything like the pics london-boy did. Bwhahaahahah.
Got a copy of this today. Graphics aren't as nice as the console versions, and not as good as, say, Ridge Racer, but still very nice and with plenty of detail and a nice smooth framerate. Loading times are okay. Gameplay is fully intact and soooo much fun.
I also got Virtua Tennis today, and it looks (and plays) freaking awesome, but that's a story for another thread :D

Got it too. Graphically it's somewhat close to it's PS2 cousin but gameplay is pure Burnout. Most of the time you are too busy crashing ;) .

I read a review but it did not say if there was a crash mode or not. The racing in the game puts me off with the cheating AI but I love the crash mode. So is there a crash mode or not?
Also please more info on virtual tennis anything would be appreciated that is the game that is keeping me from selling my PSP.

yes it is there. Similar to burnout 3 takedown, has 100 crash junctions.
As I was saying earlier at work....
PSP now not only looks cool, but it has a good game. One more and it will equal DS in the good game category :P
I had to find my PSP and charge the battery so I could play. :)

F1: very arcade feel to it... i dunno
burnout: loved, very cool game .
virtuatennis: woooaah its the dreamcast classic! very nice game
coded arms : Meh, you dont want to buy this game.. very boring gameplay, always the same corridors and rooms..
gripshift: .... who? why ? when? ergh.. nice shareware game to play on your pda ... ;)
ape escape on the loose: if you are a fan of the originals.. a nice game, the controls need to get used to a bit.. (for me atleast)
So you're looking forward to MGA2 and it's amazing 3D then
Actually the game I was really looking forwards to was Katamari whatever it's called.
I think it'll be a great fit for the PSP, good in short bursts...

The PSP Katamary would be so perfect with a tilt sensor, really hope Sony releases it fotr that game.
