That officially sucks. I was so waiting for to be able to play it during summer holiday.
I'm starting to feel more and more negative towards PSP as time goes, it's just a natural reaction to constantly being pissed on by Sony
Sony just ruined my summer
for the people who cant wait.. import one, the price will be aprox the same or a bit lower including shipment

hahaha u know scee will do such thing..
the timings tare too close to xenon to counter ms.
any how read my impressions in other thread..to be fair, money not spend is not much missing out on psp....trust me the novelty wore thin once you hold it in hands. psp worth no more than 199 usd imo.
if u still want to try first hand, buy a jap psp. best get a standalone pack. 512mb ms, own headphones, own pouchy bag and glasses cloths more enough than gimicky pack in.

I put little weight on your "impressions", chap, as you're biased as can be and everybody knows that
Everything has a "novelty value" attached to it, xbox360 will have a novelty value that'll wear thin after a while, PS3 will have a novelty value, "Revolution" will have novelty value...
If you have your mind set beforehand not to like said device, I'm sure the novelty will wear thin sooner ;)
It's the games and other content that keep them fresh. As hardware devices they are after all just games consoles with some buttons and processors and wires, screen etc...
I don't think the prices asked for PSP, import or official, are a ripoff. They are within what I am willing to pay for the capabilities of PSP.

Mostly, region coding for movies. And the thought that region coding for games is "up to the developers to include in the future if they wish" which doesn't sound too good to me.
Other than that, i would do it, and just import everything from the US, not like i care, it's all english anyway. Just a bit of a pain not being able to go into town, pick up a game or video and play it straight away on my way home.
Yeah, I'm sorry, fellows. But this problem isn't unique to Sony. Europe has been last to the party for years - for forever - and though I'd really like that to change, it's just not going to happen this time.
The good news is, you've all got time to start a "PSP fund" over the summer so that when the thing releases, you'll be able to grab up one of these beauties with all the games, cases, memory sticks, etc. you want.
It's a great system and I'm sorry its mystique is being tarnished by the wait. I feel for you.
Yeah, I'm sorry, fellows. But this problem isn't unique to Sony.
Sony aren't unique for releasing their products later in Europe compared to the US and Japan no. But I don't think people have a big problem with a delay. Its the sheer size of the delay that's the problem (plus the difference in price).
Maybe European PSPs will come with an upgraded battery and play new games that uncap the full speed of the system. 8)

Whatever. I'll end up buying something else, like a new TV or monitor, and PSP will go down in the list of priorities for me.

Now I'm (again) thinking of importing one (oh, when will I make up my mind  ) from Lik-Sang.
I'll wait until the month changes, so it'll go to a new Visa bill :)
Also I haven't yet been able to convince my bf that importing is indeed safe and even economical, I'll need to work on that during the weekend (but my persuasion means do not have the same effect they used to :( ).
It's is my Visa anyway, but kinda "our" money (when did I agree on that  )
I'll need a game or two with that too, I've thought of Ridge Racers and Lumines. Are these import friendly, or should I order them from USA instead? Does anybody know a good place to order games from US to EU?
I read somewhere that Lumines has had some slight improvements for US version, is that true? Or were they coming for the EU version? What about RR, any differences between US and Japanese games?
as far I did check out RR jap and USA , they are quite the same
the jap version is very easy to play , there isn't that much japanese in it.
lumines has a few changes but nothing as of special.
i would recomend those 2 games togehter with wipeout (is 100% english)

This is my first time I import anything this valuable, I've only ever bought one dvd from amazon before........ ooooo I think I start feeling sick now :P
Now I just wait when Lik-Sang will deliver them.......
Ooooh, exciting! :D Enjoy your new PSP! 8)
Guys, if you want to import, www.success-hk.com is cheaper than Lik-sang - my friends and I have all used it without issue.

The price differences have gotten much better, actually. For the longest time it's been almost a straight dollar-to-pound pricing, but of late they've either decided to be kinder to Europe or meaner to the US. Your pick. ;)

The levelling in pricing is probably due to the weakened dollar and yen than with companies feeling more generous towards the European region. But who cares with the reason is as long as it's cheaper eh? :P
So I'm travelling over the pond again this June, and will have a one night stopover at Tokyo's Narita airport. I'm considering picking up a PSP while I'm there. Do the airport shops charge extortionate prices? I won't have a chance to make it into town unfortunetly (flight gets in late, connection leaves early in the morning).
Damn you Sony and your September release date *shakes fist*

I'm prepared for a dead pixel or two, I really don't mind if they are there as long as they are not in a quantity of tens.
I've had a dead pixel (red) in my crappy Hyundai 17" monitor, and although it's very visible against dark colours, it's not bothering me at all unless I stare at a blank black screen ;)
So, sorry PC-Engine, there's nothing you can say to make me feel bad for my purchase ;)

I just think they should have gone with the same formula as Nintendo. Meaning US price plus tax plus £5 or so for shipping costs ect (£159.99 or $305). To keep the PSP/DS price difference the same in Europe as it is in the US. Especially since PSP is already going to be very late to Europe. But yeah its still a better price then it would have been a few years ago so that's something.

No, here's no import stores, and if there were they'd charge €600 for a PSP Value Pack.
Like I said, the dead pixels don't worry me, and they won't be that big a problem to me. I'll be able to live with two or three. Even if I had 5 dead pixels there's little chance they will all be say red, and close to each other. I know I won't be noticing them much in actual use. Dead pixel staring is not my hobby.
I plan to buy a 1Gig card later. I already have a 256MB stick that I use with my DSC-T1 cam, that will have to do for a couple of months. I know it won't hold many movies (even one?) or music, but that's ok, it'll only leave me something to look forward if I get bored to RR and Lumines

I was just kidding chap, I am a homosexual male, not bi or straight. My family dosn't know I'm homosexual, they just think I'm a hopeless geek who can't get a girlfriend
But that's not the topic.
I received a call from local UPS at friday and they said my PSP should arrive at monday afternoon 2nd May.
That's fast. I placed my order at Lik-Sang wednesday-thursday night!
Thanks for being helpful, but I think I know enough already to be able to use the PSP and what softeare to use for converting videos etc..

Got the PSP today.
Can't find no dead pixels, they might be there, but haven't yet seen any.
The square button seems ok too :)
Haven't had much to test it with though , except music and self-encoded videos.
Music quality is good and clean, but I might buy better headphones.
I only have a 256MB Memorystick, so the 2h video (adult content) I converted to fit was blocky at places and only 15 fps. Just about watchable for pr0n though :)
Also encoded a 20 min chapter from SWII:Clone Wars (last chapter) with 320x240/29.97fps/1500kbps Stereo/128kbps and the quality was much much better, I can definitely see myself viewing films and tv shows at that quality. Can't wait to get some anime to view.
The japanese valuepack didn't come with any demo disc, and I ordered the games separately and they did not arrive yet, so any UMD media is still unproven.
Can't wait to try the games on it.
The system is very easy to use, I like the cross media bar interface.
The surface really is a dust and fingerprint magnet, and the reflectiviness could have been toned down a bit.
Also viewed some 5 megapixel photos on it. Nice feature, but I don't think I'll use it for viewing photos much. A nigger and higher resolution monitor is much better for that, also my camera (DSC-T1) has large enough screen for occasional photoviewing.
A nigger and higher resolution monitor

 Oops!!
That was a typing mistake
It should have been B as BIGGER!
heh
Anyway I checked the screen with a blank black and white images for dead pixels. There are three and they are visible on the black pic background.
Two of htem are close to another on the upper left corner (about 3mm from edges) and one is on the lower left approx at the same position. They are really tiny and I can't see them except on pure dark screen.
They're not an issue for me, anyway there's always more dust particles and other dirt on the surface of the screen that a few dead pixels go well as one of them ;) Of course it would be better if the screen had none, but they're really not something I'd bother returning the unit, even if I'd bought it locally.
Encoded a chapter of Monster's Inc, and it looks wonderful! I might buy some UMD movie next... Hellboy might be good, haven't seen it yet on DVD either.
The sound quality in encoded movies is quite good, there's even some rather good bass. The earbuds are actually quite good with good material.
nice you enjoy your psp.
i must say, most bad pixels i saw are the ones who are only visible when its pure black onscreen.
personaly , i like the earphones a lot. they are quite a bit better then my sony earphones. the bas sound is very nice, it goes to very low freqs..
only the max vomume i would have liked to be a bit harder..

as i fear! dead pixes! buying a psp is a 50/50 chance hit. very terrible sony qa as usual. u should buy psp standalone. much worth it. then u buy 512mb, logitech case and sony nude headphones.
i actually not like the xmb. the transpancy is confusing for fast acces,. you can press select when playing media but u cannot multitask. i want watch photo hear mp3, nope. i want watch video but check battery %, nope. settings dont seem saved after u power off. i want put all media to shuffle, nope reset. no choice to on/off last playback saved settings.
there is also lag when accessing memstick. sometime it take 2s to delete file sometime it take 15s even filesize is as small!
good u forgo photo, really impossible to enjoy with 2-3s lag when moving each photo.
umd when u get, u will fear load time. 4-6s sound okay. but for short burst game like lumines vs, quite annonying. is it our psp, but umd loading quite load. is it possible for psp to work like gc loading? i wish
did u see any dent marks on surface of screen? i find that also cause distort pixes. we got 1 lint top of screen...sony should make psp like cellphone with removable covers.. for cleaning.
i got clone war vol 1 ws rip in memstick. get from mininova.
want faster video trial, try this
http://www.fantasticfourmovie.com/us/flash/psp/FF_psp_video.zip
umd videos are even clearer! but worthless to buy this format at dvd prices. maybe if cheap like 10 bucks..

Dont fear dead pixels, I don't fear them as they do not show at all during use, only if look closely and on black background. They are not coloured on my screen, but more pale gray. Maybe if they were on the middle of screen and red or green I would be more afraid.
I wouldn't call that "very terrible Sony quality as usual" as that's pretty much what can be expected on any moderately priced consumer devices with (bigger) LCD screens.
Besides, the screens are manufactured by Sharp, not Sony ;)
I like the headphones included in Value Pack, better than many cheap earbuds. Surprisingly clean and good bass, although a little too midband heavy for my liking. The "Original" sound setting makes the sound better for my ears.
Yeah, the Japanese value pack isn't as "good" value as the us (and eu?) packs, as it doesn't include an UMD demo disc (I like the demo discs that come with consoles), UMD movie and cleaning cloth.
Still it is easy to be tempted by more stuff for more money. If I were to order the PSP now I might go for the non value pack and some Nyko case and Sony Nude earphones.
By the way, can you use standard headphone minijack directly in PSP. The valuepacks remote to PSP part has that nonstandard connector.
What do you mean by "xmb. the transpancy is confusing for fast acces" ?
I agree with the non multitasking thing, it would be nice to be able to view photos and listen mp3s at the same time. But that's about the only multitasking thing you'd want to do. The PSP should have enough power to do those at the same time, maybe they just didn't think of it :?
Hopefully future firmwares fix it.
Some of the settings no being saved after power off. I think it's the same as with most media devices, mp3 players, dvd players... the shuffle, repeat etc settings are most often resetted if you power off. Actually I thionk it would be mostly annoying if they were saved as those are settings that are used "by mood" and depending on what you listen/view.
The basic settings are saved after power off, of course (like language, clock etc...)
Haven't experienced that lage with memsticks you describe, everything I've done (deleted files etc...) inside the PSP operating system has been almost immediate.
I don't think it is impossible to enjoy viewing photos on PSP, the lag isn't that long anyway, especially if you put on a slideshow the lag is masked in the transition progress. Flicking through them manually has a couple of seconds lag, but that's on 5megapixel images. Haven't yet tried photos of native PSP resolution, but I think the lag would not be there any more.
As I would not use it for viewing photos I've took, I would use the PSP for viewing manga :)
I will not fear UMD loading times :) (are you trying to scare me off my PSP?)
I've become used to loading times with PSOne and PS2 (and xbox and GC). It'l not be an issue for me, as were not the terribly scary deadly zombi pixzels.
Didn't see any dent marks or lints on the screen, haven't looked for them though so maybe they are there as there were dead pixels even though I didn't see them until I searched for them :)
Thanks for the link chap, I'll try it as soon as I get home.
