Dawn of a new day on virtual landscapes
La Couvertoirade, France –September 20, 2002 – iLuaC software announces today the new version of its virtual scenery generation, rendering, and exploration software, aeliom 1.1. This new release introduces new functionalities, improves its reliability, and responds to the attention and to the abundant requests that iLuaC collects since August 2002 (after the first public release of aeliom).

"Until now, there is no solution to create and explore a virtual landscape by combining the flexibility andthe comfort of real time graphics with a high-quality rendering. All the tools are born of a shape edition tradition and pre-computed images. The copious number of hours dedicated to the genesis of a complete world usually lead to some static images." stated Dr Cyril Kardassevitch, founder of iLuaC.

aeliom tries to annihilate this frustration by offering a landscape rendering that takes a full advantage of the last real time technologies of the 3D graphic boards, to approach the rendering quality of pre-computed images.

"iLuaC R&D department wants to go deeper into the concept by merging the creation act and theexplore one into the same graphics user interface, so that the users will be able to fully adopt the surrounding virtual world."

Moreover, such an approach frees the world creator from an exclusive picture gallery production, and allows him to export his talent to new appealing areas. In a near future the solution will evolve to provide interactive contents and online community functionalities.

Key features: high level language that manages the entire set of iLuSeON functionalities,
high quality rendering engine, that allows complex materials via a shading language (similar to the RenderMan™ one), sky light illumination, and cloud volumetric rendering,
real time exploration of the generated universes (some elements of the environments are dynamics : clouds, water reflections with waves, …),
ultra high compactness of the world description format (often less than 20 KB). It allows brief Internet transfers.
3D audio environments. The complex sound environments are managed via a script system. Some of the aeliom 1.1 new features: includes the Ogg Vorbis audio sound codec,
trilingual interface (English, Spanish, and French),
a new default render with contour lines,
improves the performance of the Nvidia GeForce™ 3 & 4,
better compatibility with ATI Radeon™ boards.iLuSeON engine key features: run-time high quality rendering and geometry management,
subdivision surfaces, height fields and Boolean operations,
displacement mapping on all the OpenGL 1.3 boards (do not require DirectX 9 comp. boards !),
level of details for both surfaces and materials,
complex per-pixel material generation via the shaders language,
pixel shader use on Nvidia GeForce™ 3 & 4 boards,
dynamic and volumetric clouds,
complex water reflection (with dynamic waves)Availability
aeliom 1.1 for Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 et Windows XP is available as a free download from the iLuaC site : www.iluac.com/aeliom/ (http://www.iluac.com/aeliom/). aeliom works on OpenGL 1.3 compatible boards, but a GeForce 3 or 4 is highly recommended to fully benefit from its advanced visualization system.

iLuaC software
iLuaC was founded in October of 2001 by Cyril Kardassevitch to exploit, develop, and extend its PhD research results, with the aim of pushing the digital landscape area to new unexplored levels. The entire set of aeliom’s innovative technologies are gathered into the iLuSeON engine. The iLuaC R&D field of competences covers 3D real-time and rendering techniques (shader languages, physically correct global illumination, OpenGL, complexity management, high level geometry, …).
