View Full Version : I'm just a little impressed
Installed a Visiontek Ti4600 this morning using 27.50 drivers that the board is shipping with . Turned on 4x FSAA, 8X Anisotropic filtering and got a result of 83.1 fps 1280x1024 Demo4 max settings 32bit color desktop and game... No tweaks, no overclock just default install
I just got mine in today too, I haven't installed it yet. I was wondering, if you're reading this Rev, do you have a script for Serious Sam 2, like you had for benchmarking on Serious Sam? I'd like to use it if there's one available.
what about the large hit on Aniso perf. Have they fixed that yet?
jb:
I don't think it has yet.
ben6:
Am I the only one who suddenly thought he got a V5 6000? The card is loooooooong.
Well it may not be fixed but this is definitely not Ti500 speed for Anisotropic filtering+ FSAA  (My Ti500 got 60~ fps 8x Anisotropic+ 2X FSAA @1280x1024 32bit max settings...)
Matt yeah it is long. Reverend a script for Serious Sam2 would be nice here too and a revised one for Serious Sam 1 for the latest patch. Matt what happened to 3dGPU?
I'm not sure, the whole Gaming Groove network is down, and I talked to Billy and the guy who did all the coding and was in the know with the servers isn't with the site any longer, so I don't know the new guy's email yet. I'm hoping it's something minor, like a server move or upgrade.
Really a pisser, because it went down when I was working on getting a new news script up, and nothing annoys me more than something that interrupts my coding bliss.

Well for the price I'm not impressed, if a existing card owner has a Ti500,Ti200, 8500 they would be crazy to upgrade to this card. To each their own with deep pockets, this consumer has no such pockets..and no freebie cards given to them either

Yehhh I'll take two
Only $600 Canadian dollars? That's like $1.50 USD. I'll take one
No, seriously, I don't see a market for this card unless you really dig high res FSAA. Sure, it's darned fast, but so are plenty of other cards that cost half as much. Ti200 and 8500 are the cards I'd recommend to people. We'll have DX9-class cards before we need the speed of a Ti4600.

NV25 is frigin insane. The benchmarks I have seen put it wayyyy further past the competition then I expected from this generation. Its a bit surprising to me, IMO.
Is anybody ever going to steal NVIDIA's flame? heh..

if you believe some nuts ppl, it will happen sooner than you think.. How long it wil stay that way, that's harder question...

Well, benchmark sounds off compared to other scores:
Tom's Quake3 scores with 1280 x 1024 with x4 AA with v1.17 was 62.7 frames with no anisotrophy with the GeForce4 Ti-460.
http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/02q1/020206/geforce4-14.html
I hope the scores are accurate because they're incredible numbers.

I'll retest when I get home from work . I couldn't believe the score either , but ran it several times and while one test did show a result of 77fps (because of a pause during action probably because my phone line discconnected from the internet at the time) the other 4 tests turned in identical results of 83.1 , 83.0, 83.2, 83.1 (.1 fps is not statistically significant).

im guessing you didnt actually have anisotropic filtering on...
...or maybe he didn't have antialiasing enabled
http://www.nvnews.net/previews/geforce4/page_2.shtml
I'm showing 79fps with the same settings and no AA.
I just tried it on my Ti4600. In 1280x1024x32 with everything cranked to the max in Quake3 with 4x FSAA and level 8/64-tap anisotropic filtering and got 39.9fps on demo four.
Rig:
1.33GHz
256mb DDR
Ti4600 using 27.70 drivers
Nothing tweaked, nothing touched, just v-sync turned off.
I never went as high as 8X anisotropic at that setting, but 4X yielded 54fps.

Regarding SSam SE and scripts. There's no need really. Just use the "Extreme GFx" add-on in the game's menu. Using this extreme gfx scipt/add-on results in same settings for everything from a V5, GF1/2/3, Kyro, Radeons and even Savage2K. Just use this extreme add-on everytime you benchmark with different cards. Remember also that all the advanced graphics options apply to both OGL and D3D.
Ah sweet, thanks for the info Rev. I learn something new everyday.
P.S. The Grace GF4 demo is jaw-dropping gorgeous.

Ok Matt, thanks for the info. I am sure they will get it working very soon!
It really is too bad I only get to use this card for a day or two. I've discovered something very interesting . If I turn on FSAA+8x anisotropic filtering, I get in the 80~ fps range (found out bilinear filtering was the cause of some of the extra performance now corrected) now what's interesting is if I turn on FSAA without Anisotropic filtering I get exactly what Mike gets . Turn on aniso, get 80 fps turn off aniso 65 fps very strange behavior...

I noticed at first my scores were lower than what I had with a GF3 Ti500 in 3DMark 2001, so I started looking into what could be the problem. I installed RivaTuner (was using NVMax) and used the Power User section and scanned through it for anything that seems out of place. Then I found the EnableALiAGP key was set to 0. Since I'm using a ALi Magick 1 chipset (Soyo K7ADA mobo), I enabled it.
My 3DMark 2001 scores went from 6100 to 8700, which sounds a lot more what I'm supposed to get. So I went back and reran Quake 3 at the settings you set Ben, and went from 39.9fps that I stated previous to 49.8 (default clock and no tweaking done). I decided to overclock to 330/715 and almost hit the 60fps mark! Got 55.2fps instead, which is playable in my books.
Just thought I'd throw that correction up. It's nice to see the Nature scene move smoother, it still takes my breath away with it's beauty. In case anyone is interested in details, here my 3DMark details: http://gamershq.madonion.com/compare2k1.shtml?2883338
Edit: Forgot to add, I'm running at 1.36GHz now.

Another example of bad online journalism. Thew in the card for some minutes, rush together some benchmark scores and put them on the front page of a website without double checking them or even think about it for a second ... oh dear.
Whelp more weirdness. I've freshly formatted my hdd, reinstalled Windows via Ghost, and installed a new build of 27.50 drivers. Using the drivers I get an identical 80 fps with 4x FSAA and 8x anisotropic filtering enabled at max settings . However , when using NVMAX I get 50.6 fps enabling both. So either 1. The drivers are disabling something with the default drivers or 2. Something else is going on..
Mephisto, heh, honestly I don't really give a flying what fps I get in a Quake3 benchmark. However, and I mean this in a good way, when I play Quake3 this resolution is playable to me with FSAA and anisotropic filtering..
In any event, I'm still getting the exact same result. And just thought it would be of some interest as the 4600 was just released yesterday.
Mephisto:
Wrong. Another example of human error. I'm sure you've made mistakes in your life too. Bad journalism would be to post the results, find the mistake, and not either a) update the post with the fixed results or b) delete the post altogether til further testing proves no mistakes were made. As you can see at NVNews, the post was taken down.
This is a new card, using new drivers, we're bound to find bugs and mistakes in the process of reviewing it, and it's our job to let the world know about that.
