Thanks, many info there
<MarkRein[Epic]> Zoltan--> I play on a P3 800 at home (with a GeForce2 GTS) and the game rocks on it.
I liked that :)

There's like 3 or 4 days of logs hehe. Here's one they put on the official site (http://www.unrealtournament2003.com/?chatlog1). Mark did say he would go over the logs and "research" the questions asked in the chats. This way he could give complete answers and correct any mistakes.

The first chat done was a mess, 350 people in the room, PM'ing the few voiced people questions, and they would paste it into the chat if appropriate. 2 rounds of that and the next time there was one voiced queuing the questions, letting the questions get answered before the next was paste into the chat. They got it down pretty good now :D

I'm afraid that as soon as more bots enter the screen the framerate will go done to choppy motion :(

With a a1500xp,256mb,gf3ti200 it's choppy when bots came to close...
I'm told so... :o

Here the official recommend system requirement:
http://www.unrealtournament2003.com/?faq
What will the recommended system requirements be?

Operating System: WIN 98/ME/2000/XP
CPU: Pentium III or AMD Athlon 733MHz processor (*Pentium® or AMD 1.0 GHz or greater RECOMMENDED)
Memory: 128 MB RAM (256 MB RAM or greater RECOMMENDED)
Hard Disk Space: 3 GB
CD ROM or CD/DVD ROM: 8X
Audio System: Windows® compatible sound card (*Sound Blaster® Audigy(tm) series sound card RECOMMENDED) (NVIDIA® nForce™ or other motherboards/soundcards containing the Dolby® Digital Interactive Content Encoder required for Dolby Digital audio. Also RECOMMENDED)
Video System: 3D Accelerator card with 16 MB VRAM (*32-128 MB VRAM RECOMMENDED) 16 MB TNT2-class DirectX® version 6 compliant video card. (*NVIDIA GeForce 2/ATI Radeon RECOMMENDED) DirectX® version 8.1 (Included on game disc)
Multiplayer: Internet (TCP/IP) and LAN (TCP/IP) play supported. *Internet play requires a 33.6 Kbps or faster modem

If I understand it correctlly then:

MINIMUM
- 733MHz CPU
- 128MB RAM
- 16MB TNT class
- Windows sound card

RECOMMENDED
- +1GHz CPU
- +256MB RAM
- GF2/Radeon card

3 GB of disk space !!!!

That is huge. I guess it comes on a big pile of CDs then.

Well considering the fact that there is like in the neighbourhood of 10X the polygon data and about 4 times the texture data, it's going to be huge.

If I'm not mistaken UT was originally 8 bit textures, so 4 x comes from there for the textures.

The poly count in UT was rather low, but UT 2003 is somewhere near the 100k mark, IIRC.

3Gigs is a lot.

[20:40] <Dopefish|mIRC> Mark: is the UT2003 demo so close you could start playing the Jaws theme?
[20:42] <MarkRein[Epic]> Dopefish|mIRC--> I don't know. Just as the build I got for ECTS was cut they were switching over to the new GUI. I have no idea how the shakedown is going on that or how much of it is still incomplete.

[21:08] <GIdenJoe> MarkRein[Epic] how are the menu system bugs coming? Are they almost ironed out, and how about that Uwindow system, will we see it in a later patch?
[21:09] <MarkRein[Epic]> GIdenJoe--> Yes I think UWindows will be in a future patch along with demo recording. The new GUI was being turned on just as I left for the UK so I have no idea how it's going.

[20:42] <mored`afk> MarkRein[Epic] > the recommended specs were released today, iirc, what kind of FPS / detail level performance does the 'recommended' system achieve?
[20:44] <MarkRein[Epic]> mored`afk--> recommended specs should you give you a really good game. Remember a while back I posted that one of my machines at home is a PIII 850 with a GeForce2 GTS - that machine plays the game quite nicely with very decent amounts of detail and at a decent rez

[21:11] <Sorcerer|elsewhere> MarkRein[Epic]: One last question: is it possible (a mutator perhaps) to completely turn off adrenaline?
[21:13] <MarkRein[Epic]> Sorcerer|--> Yes there is a "No adrenaline" mutator in the game
[21:13] <MarkRein[Epic]> Sorcerer|--> But it would suck if people use it too much - adrenaline is really fun - it's not something you get easily so it really adds to the strategy of the game.

[21:18] <NeoRag`Away> what maps is gonna be remakes? those i know is Curse 3 and Face 3
[21:20] <MarkRein[Epic]> NeoRag---> Hmmm.... Phobos is a redux. I think Plunge could be considered a remake of Morpheus and Gael could be considered a remake of Morbias. LavaGiant probably won'
[21:20] <MarkRein[Epic]> NeoRag--> Lavagiant probably won't make it into the game now so it will come in a future bonus pack.

[21:24] <Sil3> MarkRein[Epic] will there be a Collectors Edition of UT2003 with Bonus Stuff, like CD Soundtrack, Art of UT2003 Book, Posters and etc? I personaly would love tho have all that artwork in a book to drool over?
[21:24] <MarkRein[Epic]> Sil3--> No, we make games not fluff

I just saw it at the U2 forum:

U2 is going to take advantage of vertex shaders, that means a GF3 or GF4 4200 or better.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually, we don't; we use the fixed-function pipeline exclusively at this point. With that said, having a GF3 or above is still a very good thing, due to the increased number of available texture stages compared to the GF2 line (and these additional stages we very much DO use if they're available; we don't require them but it's good to have them). So the quality of our materials is still definitely improved by GF3-level hardware, even if vertex or pixel shaders themselves aren't involved.

This doesn't change your recommendation or anything (i.e. GF3+ or ATI equivalent, not including the GF4 MX which isn't a real GF4), just the reasons behind it. GF4 MXs (as well as GF2s and such) should run the game okay, but if you're already planning on upgrading anyway then don't go for less than true GF3-level hardware (note my disclaimer: IF you're already planning on upgrading anyway).

And nobody should go and try and spin my reply into an attempt to get other system specs/requirements information out of me. I have no intention of discussing that right now. All I'm saying is basically what people already know: the better your graphics card, the better you'll be, so choose your card based on what you want to get out of it.

- Chris

Then this explain why GF3 are twice as fast as GF2 in UT2k3 benchmarks (Anandtech). This is the same reason Doom3 runs faster with GF3: the number of passes per pixel.

Now I think the more realistic recomendation is something like: +1GHz CPU / 256MB / GF3

Demo should be ready this week
Hi Folks,

The demo is nearly ready to go. It should be out sometime within the next few days. Keep watching this space (the stickies) for an announcement. When it's ready we'll just be releasing it randomly to a few major sites so that hopefully it will spread like wildfire and everyone will be able to get it from their favorite games site. There won't be any special exclusives or anything like that. We want everyone to be enjoying it the minute it goes live.

More details to follow, keep watching this space.

Maybe we will finally see the demo this week.

Why would it slow down more with bots than with normal players? I realize the bot AI requires processing cycles, but that wouldn't exactly have anything to do with how close they are...

I really liked that part. Blizzard and their BS overpriced "collectors addition" , can consider that a bitchslap to the face.
