Hi

Ive just got my new Powercolor X800XT PE, expensive but very nice.
I like quiet computing espcially when im in Windows 2d mode so im testing/using ATI TOOL to control the fan

In Windows Xp 2d mode its 40/37 Celsius which is nice. and im only running the fan at 32%

In gaming mode things change ive used farcry with window mode 1280*960 in a desktop resolution of 1600*1200 so im watching ATI TOOL temp readings order to determine what speed i need on the fan while gaming.
Now there is a huge difference in high GPU temp depending where in the game i am, for example in catacombs lvl the card is more hot than in a normal outdoor enviroment. In the catacomb lvl in certain places if staying still for a minute or two the card go up 75 Celsius with a fan speed of 75% (hardcoded).

In order to make the best of my config i need some advice on x800xt max (allowed) gpu temp ?

Thank for your input.

/Nevyn

i hit 75c too after gaming for a long time. So i used ati tool to change it to a 100% fan at 75c and change the emps like wise al lthe way down.

I think your fine at 75c thats what most others are reporting under load.

Check out my "underclocking with ATiTool" for some ideas of how to quieten down your system.

Unlike me - who don't have adjustable fan or temp reading - you can twiddle with even more stuff than just lowering clock speed in 2D mode.

Then again, my fan is much smaller than the 9800XT/X800 series and can't even be heard inside the case, especially not with harddrive and system fan whirr going on at the same time so it doesn't really matter, though temp monitoring would have been nice. Oh well, I'll get it in my next vidcard which'll happen god knows when. :)

Check out DW's post here - his settings using ATITool really rock, and I experiences a 10C drop at maximum usage.

BTW, My 6800GT runs at 85C under same conditions......AND

My max temp is only 55C(X800) now.......that it's water cooled!
