Don't you think it passed the regular time of catalyst release? I was thinking that ATI was releasing new dirvers at the beginning (7th-9th) of each month.
Or did they fried this release date completely and shooting for the next month to cook something better for doom3?

Their usual release date (as far as it goes) was last weekend, and they don't release over weekends. It's expected to come out before this weekend, so maybe today or tomorrow.

Should be here shortly I think. At least this review http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1634209,00.asp already uses Cat 4.8.

alot of people are thinking there may be no real 4.8s . They may just be the 4.9 beta's whql

It's a much of a muchness. It's the same codebase that is being developed all the time, with each branch a snapshot off the same trunk sent off to WHQL and labelled 4.x whatever.

If the changes made in the 4.9b branch have been rolled back into the trunk, then 4.8 will have the 4.9b changes anyway, along with any improvements made to the trunk since the 4.9b release.

The only release I care about at this point is the one with the revamped opengl driver. It's long overdue.

yes its the same code base. But it doesn't mean the 4.8s will fix the same things as the 4.9bs . ITs also not a quick lets throw this in and send it out. They have to go through whql which last i heard takes ati at least 2 weeks

Anyway 4.8 stands for August 200 4 release so they have until august 31 to release it :)

they are releasing 4.81s meaning a 2nd revision of the 4.8s so it took some more time as they had to redo QA and then do WHQL should be here early next week

nope oh well there goes my guess haha . Mabye 4.9s then. I hope i don't have to wait for the 5.0s for the new panel. THat would mean january at the earliest

I too hope we don't have to wait till the 5.0s. I'm dying to have a proper user configurable app detection since radlinker doesn't work well with my two favorite games.

I thought it was just the 8th release of '04. The release generally match up with months, but not quite (http://www.ati.com/support/products/radeonwinxppreviousdrivers.html).

According to rage3d they should be out very soon and support SM 2.0b and instancing.

Yes, 4.8's have apparently promised for early this week, though that leaves only two-and-a-half weeks till 4.9 with the new control panel if the Inq is correct on their Sept 3rd date.
