View Full Version : Inflation of post count by consistently making multipleposts

The topic says it all I find it quite annoying that some members are doing it over and over again. I've suggested to atleast one person to use the edit button they say its just the way the cookie crumbles its easier to do multiple posts.

So if the mods aren't busy and have lots of spare time to be forum nazi's can you add this to the list of things to get up people about :).

*bloodbob shuts up now before everyone starts picking grammar his and speiling.

I've complained about this in the past.

Nothing has yet occured to solve this small dilemma.

Well you should post thier names here and how many times they have double posted. I can only watch that on the console forum . Other than that I believe dave mods the rest of the forums . So he is the guy to go to on that part. But hey post counts don't matter. I am in the top 10 and I'm most likely the bottom 10 in terms of knowledge .

I find multiple posts replying to different people improve clarity. Often the thread can have split, so replying to multiple people in the same post just gets confusing.

Does anybody really care about post-counts anyway?

Quite - and nobody could use the argument that "multiposting" makes threads unnecessarily long; not when we have 30+ page monsters on a regular basis.

What we need is a threaded forum. That would also make ignoring flame-fest subthreads alot easier.

I don't like threaded forums AT ALL.

IMO people are not skilled enough to properly use them, so it's even more junk that simple one thread forums.

Sometimes you post something replying to someone, then when u have submitted it already, you see that someone else needs a reply too. The easiest and clearest thing to do is making a different post.

Sometimes when someone edits his post, the new edited contents are completely ignored. Therefore it is (again) clearer to just post new points someone might have on a new post.

Sometimes the system itself posts the same message like 4 times. :?

If we were to only post in a thread once and then keep editing the same post, it would be a total mess.

So there.

And the "post count" thing only shows that the only one that cares about posts count is you, bloodbob, if you feel the need to bring the subject up...

Oh how lovely.

Yeah of course I don't mean that and I some how doubt they you actually thought that espically after DW's example. If you are replying to what someone has postsed since your original post that is fine go ahead and do that.

I mean
Poster a posts
Poster b posts
Poster c posts
Poster d posts
Poster a posts
Poster X posts
Poster X posts
Poster X posts
Poster X posts

I think you will find this hardly every happens its when an empaitent user submits multiple times because they didn't wait long enough for the stuff to happen on the HTTP server.

You've ignored the first 2 points which i think were the most important ones and pretty much explain a pattern in these boards. Believe me, i spend enough time on this site to see certain patterns emerging.

Okay Poster A posts something
Poster B posts something
Poster C replies to both A & B

Poster A changes something in his post.

Okay Poster A posts something
Poster B posts something
Poster C replies to A
Poster C replies to B

Poster A changes something in his post.

Okay now how I fail to see how what the difference is?

Or if you mean the other way

Okay Poster A posts something
Poster B posts something
Poster C replies to both A & B

Poster C changes something in his post.

Okay Poster A posts something
Poster B posts something
Poster C replies to A
Poster C replies to B

Poster C changes something in one his posts.

I fail how to see it would be different here either? so what are you going on about???

Honey, what are YOU going on about...?

This thread is getting redundant. Very much so.

That point meant what i wrote. Which is "sometimes people do not see when someone edits his posts to, for example, add points to his message, therefore it is easier for the guy to post a new message with the new points". Whoever it is, A B or C, it doesn't make a difference if D E or F only see the first unedited message.

Just get over it alright? It's only normal. :D

Okay well the first time you spoke about edited content rather then "appended" content now if you just posted 5 minutes ago I don't think their is really gonna be that many views that is matters if a couple people miss it ( and if it is a busy thread their will be posts after your original post). Though if it has been longer yeah I would say its okay to do it then. But generally the multiple posts aren't after thoughts.

Though I do see that their is mixed opion on the forum on wether or not we should spam with clarity or if we should be conservative on posts and loose calrity.

No. First, you might want to edit your post because it made my head hurt. Second you're talking about spamming.

If one wants to spam, he will spam with or without editing his posts.

If one is having a discussion, i see no reason why, for the sake of clarity, he wouldn't want to make multiple posts to avoid misunderstandings.

Enough already.

the system does double post from time to time, and it seems to happen to alot of ppl when it happens. never seen a quad posting tho...
