View Full Version : Is there any chance for getting more mods?

I'm sick of threads turning into:

"You're an idiot."

and

"Go fuck yourself."

Seriously, threads need to be cleaned up.

I'm not just talking about threads in the 3d hardware forum either.

I dont think more mods will be added, but if some are, here is a _small_ list of people who would make good mods (in no particular order):

-RussSchultz
-Joe DeFuria
-Uttar

There are others that would be good mods, the above names just came to mind.

What good will more mods do anyway? This entire message board is starting to suck worse and worse every day.

K.I.L.E.R

Mass bannings and threats of more bannings seems to have straightened out R3D and R3D was much worse than B3D is now.

More mods to enforce the rules will make those bannings occur the moment someone breaks the rules.

Thowllly, I've always said that I was a childish a-hole with an IQ below 10. Where have I said otherwise?

I'm B3D's example of what level people should not sink to.
Unfortunately people have begun to sink to a level lower than I am on. :/

Um, I'll take moderation duties on any board but the general boards. I enjoy talking politics, and I'd feel uncomfortable having that power and still participating in the discussions.

That's quite an indicator of the vastness of this problem.

K.I.L.E.R
12-Apr-2004, 15:28
Look people, I'll be blunt about this.

Joe, Russ and others on this board have all contributed to this mess just as much as I have. Name someone who hasn't reverted to childish name calling at one stage or another?

The blame is on everyone except maybe a few select individuals like Uttar, Dave and Rev.

Thowllly, I don't see you any different from myself either from reading most of your posts. It's not like you are one to talk either. No I'm not one to talk either, that's why I didn't start a thread myself complaining about the problem.

Hey look, even this thread turned into one. *cough*Thowllly*cough*

That's quite an indicator of the vastness of this problem. That was actually the response I was expecting from K.I.L.E.R. I don't know if that means I've underestimated or overestimated him... But unlike him I at least refrain from using words like 'moron' :P

Anyway, what prompted me to reply was actually this thread (http://www.flipcode.com/cgi-bin/msg.cgi?showThread=00010348&forum=3dtheory&id=-1) on flipcode by Chryso. He seems to be a very reasonable guy, but then you go and see the last thread (http://www.flipcode.com/cgi-bin/msg.cgi?showThread=00010344&forum=3dtheory&id=-1) he started where he posted this:Brian:
Do you have to be an asshole? I just asked a question, if you can not help, by all means STFU.

Maybe someone had been through the process Im in atm, and could help me?

Instead I am stuck with a little faggot wanna-be and his little faggot fanboi. Seems like a bit of an overreaction to somebody just supplying a email address... (Brian's post might not have been the most useful, but at least it contained some information unlike a 'go search google' post)

So when I next came here and saw K.I.L.E.Rs post I just couldn't help myself. I had to do the pot/kettle thing, sorry...

gah, now I've already forgotten where I was going with this. I'll return later if I manage to get my train of thought back on track.

I understand. I just thought that if somebody was to call for a cleanup of this mess, then it should be somebody who is clean himself. But as you said in your previous post, such guys might be hard to find...

Adding more mods would be of a great help in many cases. Threads would be able to be locked when they get way out of hand and editing/deleting of posts not on topic would be able to be achieved with greater speed. Being a moderator of the console forum it does seem like things have calmed down a bit there since the past few months and from the time before it was closed. Moderators cannot directly ban members without the help of an admin such as Dave. I do suggest a possible way to ban members of a particular forum within the message board structure such as the 3d tech forum or the console forum but I do not know if that is possible with the forum software.

Mr Neeyik, lock away. ;) :D

Neeyik
22-Apr-2004, 17:17
I'd prefer not to lock it because the issue is still worth discussing. B3D has managed to resist your average spong-head from spamming away like mad due to the high brow nature of most of the posts. However, as the general public becomes more aware of terms such as shaders, pipelines and the like, such people are going to feel less reticent about making posts here.

People only post shite if they think they can get away with it. For example, some of the more "serious" forums/list servers I use for work never gets spam and I've hardly ever seen a heated discussion. In some ways, they self-monitor by the very nature of the material in the posts. Moderation, under the rare circumstances when it's been needed, has always been swift and pretty harsh - ie. warnings are immediately sent.

Of course, these forums of mine are nowhere near as popular as B3D - nor do they live in a realm where people get ridiculously excitable over another's comments; the Net is a great mask for people to hide behind and it's often curiously addictive to watch threads spiral out of control, with insults a go-go. I have to confess that I believe the RPSC forum is a prime example of this, where little is actually discussed - the general content of the threads consists of people insulting another for various reasons (their opinion, their unwilling to agree to somebody else's opinion, the way they type, etc). Let's be honest - how many times have you seen somebody repeatedly state an opinion but then, after multiple replies, change their opinion to match the others? I've seen people admit mistakes or acknowledge corrections but not once (or certainly not here anyway) have I seen a forum user being "converted". So why on Earth do people even try?

Worldview, political, social and economic ideaologies. I've found that in these matters especially, Beyond3D's general topic forum was one of the catalysts in what I think is a rather positive change.

Then there are other things related to more trivial matters, like computing.

I like the "time-out forum" idea like GenMay has. If a poster isn't following rules/causing trouble/being a blatant flaming fanboy then they can only post in the "time-out forum" until such a time as they can show they can post responsibly to all the forums.

Call it a Fanboy Forum or some such and let the nVidiots and fanATics rave all they want and if people don't want to read it they just don't got to go to that forum....people banished there will fit right in. ;)

Yes i really would like an ignore user button like on theses forums : http://www.tazoon.com/releaseForums/

When you have a troll in a thread you just use the green button on the left side and messages of that user are not displayed on your screen.

I see too much thread derailed on purpose lately with tons of newly registered user starting to post without any prior knwoledge about who is who here, and without reading any archives.

Not sure about this one. "I'm sorry Dig, but you've just earned yourself a timeout mister!" Then again, if someone's acting like a child, perhaps he/she deserves to treated as one?

I have a solution - don't get suckered in by trolls posting total BS.
The problem is, the threads around here have a much larger BS percentage now.

Ah well. And belive me, my temper is always improving. I'd bet everyone here has just a big of a neurosis as i do, they just aint admitting it.

Oh yeah - that also doesnt mean that if i leave a discussion, that two days later i think you are right, me leaving usually just means that you piss me off and i think you are totally wrong yet incapable of seeing it and so i will save myself effort and pain by not talking about it (ie, the browser thread).
(note - above para do not take usage of "you" to target you specifically, it is meant as a general "you" as in whoever i am talking to when said situations arise).

I've seen 'em all dozens of times, I got a 4 & 6 year old. It's not only some of the better kids entertainment I've seen, I just like it as entertainment in and of itself.

It's funny to me. I'll be the first to admit that it's dumb sometimes, but it's always dumb to be funny and the show always cracks me up.

I wish people would stop replying to the flamers. They take a post full of BS, then reply to it point by point (their post being at least 3x the size of the original), then proceed to reply to the next five flames, and then complain about the noise in the forums.

Stop aiding it! If you don't like a thread, PM the mods, don't reply to those particular people and move on with your life.
